GR softball - last game

GR softball 2010 last game

As I went up to my very first at bat playing softball, song #2 came up by blur on the portable cd player we brought with us. We were an impetuous team back than with no regard to etiquette and the ways of playing ball.

For the last 10 years, thursday evenings were always marked off the calendar to play giant robot softball. From the very beginning, michael stood in eric's garage publication office and proposed we start a team. Except for michael, none of us had played organized softball before and eric, martin and I looked at each other with skeptical curiosity. Sure we said. But we needed 10 people to field a team. We only had 4. The first person to join was michael and eric's cousin, jason. He was a mountain of a man who loved buffets and 3 seats at the movie theater. He went to first base...because thats where he wanted to play. Next was chi, the electrifying outfielder who gave 110% even if 2 would do. Other players came and became a fixture to the team. We found sean sitting in our bullpen during a game and he never left. Others played temporary including carlos, the drummer from reel big fish and sky who left for a season and came back engaged to miss nepal. Sometimes fans sitting on the bleachers would get recruited like greg, brian or jake. Our first uniforms were random tee shirts and pants, leading to the same color tee shirts to giant robot tees to jerseys. Despite many personnel changes, the team did well, received a reputation around the league and the hightlight of our career, went 10 and 2 and 12 and 0 for two consecutive season. Our last game was fitting as we played the rude boys, a team that had been our somewhat annoying/hated rivals from when we first started. But I guess it wasn't that important, we had all 4 pitchers (Martin, PK, Sean and myself) throw a couple of innings, we all hit for some reason and we won the game but that all seem to be a backdrop to an ending of an era.

More recently the group had no plans for a new album as they were all too busy with their own individual projects" Blur - Wikipedia.
