Monsters are waiting

ha ha

Sometimes you hear shit at a show that you really don't want to hear but you still do and all theres left is to sigh. Making my way to the front of the stage at spaceland, the band about to go on is plugging in their equipment and doing their sound check. The hipster next to me says "who is this?" And I'm thinking, this is the opening band so maybe he doesn't know. I respond, "monsters are waiting". Oh good he replies "I bought their new cd" and hands it over to me. I look at it and am puzzled why none of the songs match the playlist laying on the stage and that the cover says "the boys least likely to" while the name of their cd should be "fascination". I hand it back to him and say, "errr...ok, have fun, I'm going to watch the show now". Idiot or poser, I will never be able to figure them out..

My favorite bands seem to have disbanded or played whenever I was out of town so it was time to add a new band to the playlist. Why not "monsters are waiting". They play that kind of dreamy indie pop that lulls me into thinking that maybe my ex was right and the breakup was really was about her and not me...she probably really was lying but that music makes me feel better anyway. With a short set of about 8 songs, annalee fronts a 4 piece band that doesn't overplay and allow her shrill voice to disect their songs (think earlie blondie denis and europa) while slightly moving around like a 60's performance artist. Yea I was feeling it even despite the fuckers around me including the lady behind me who said "she looks a lot older". I should have turned around and palm striked her in the face.

Deciding to leave two loud songs into the next band (if the oakridge boys sang christian rock and was lead by steve zahn, that would be them!) I walked passed the monsters are waiting crew. I mouthed the words "good show". Annalee hesitated and said "thank you". At least that I could understand.
